Reading Area Community College (RACC) is facilitating the first annual Young Writers and Artists Competition.
- Theme: Climate Awareness in a Rapidly Changing World
- Award: Publication in Legacy, RACC’s award-winning journal, $100 award for each category winner.
- Eligibility: Berks County High School students (freshman to seniors)

NOTE: All submissions must include a "Statement of Intent" - a 500 word, single-space reflection about the artist’s/writer’s intentions for the work.
Purpose of the publication competition
Young people are coming of age in a rapidly changing world. RACC wants to meet this urgent need for students to express themselves on this issue through a writing and arts competition. The competition is judged by RACC faculty, and the work will be published in a college’s award-winning journal (spring 2022 edition), a valuable achievement for high school students seeking to pursue the arts and wishing to stand out to colleges.
Criteria for submissions
- Raises awareness of climate issues.
- Demonstrates attention to qualities valued for publication
- Demonstrates artistic choices, craft and technique in creating a work.
Students are encouraged to submit one original work for one of the following categories:
- Poetry
- Artwork
- Fiction
- Creative Non-Fiction
