Working Hours:
Working hours for this position consist of a 7.5 hour period (between the hours of 7:30 am and 8:00 pm) Monday through Friday exclusive of a 1/2 or 1 hour lunch.
Note: In this position, the employee will be required to work one evening per week. This position may require additional evening and/or weekend work with the employee having the option of working this time in addition to, or in lieu of regular hours.
Summary:
The Advising Center supports student success and retention through proactive advising, monitoring student progress and implementation of early intervention strategies.
As a Student Success Navigator, this individual will play a vital role by serving as a resource and guide who helps students navigate college successfully. Student Success Navigators are members of a student coaching team who provide intentional interventions, advising and support to student to identify and develop their career and educational goals. Student Success Navigators proactively monitor student progress, conduct outreach and care calls to connect student to services, provide academic /career advisement and facilitate registration. Success Navigators will be responsible for achieving retention and enrollment goals for assigned populations and documenting outcomes.
The Student Success Navigator-Health Professions Specialist will plan, develop and deliver comprehensive advising and academic support to all students with a primary focus on students in pre-clinical health profession programs and Health Sciences. This individual will work closely with the Health Professions Division and is expected to have a solid understanding about all health profession programs, including curricular changes, career paths and transfer options. This individual will be responsible for overseeing and managing the Nursing and Practical Nursing clinical application process.
Health Profession Specialist Responsibilities:
- Manage the selection process for the Nursing and Practical Nursing programs. This includes collecting all necessary documentation, evaluating students using the selective criteria, generating and mailing all acceptance communications related to clinicals and referring eligible students to the Division of Health Professions for final decisions about acceptance into the clinical program.
- Develop and conduct workshops, classroom presentations and coordinate events for current students interested in the Nursing/Practical Nursing programs to educate them about the selection process, program requirements, course pre-requisite requirements developmental course sequence, and graduation requirements.
- Establish timelines and develop plans for routine communication and outreach for pre-clinical health profession, health science students and other target populations as assigned. Ensure communication plan follow-through.
- Develop printed and on-line resources such as check sheets, career pathways information sheets and Health Professions transfer guides designed to help students better understand the Health Professions and Health Science programs at RACC and career pathways.
- Assist with advising for Health Science and Health Profession pre-clinical students.
- Monitor and track student retention and other success benchmarks as needed and assigned.
- Create reports and provide periodic outcomes.
- Provide monthly report on activities and initiatives.
- Serve on Division and/or College Committees required by the position.
Student Success Navigator Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advise new/prospective and current students in navigating the various degree and certificate programs (credit and non-credit) and help interpret academic and institutional policies for students.
- Build a positive mentoring relationship with students and work with and instruct them to resolve issues that impede their academic success.
- Meet and communicate regularly in person, by phone or via teleconference with students to provide information, resources and support as they progress through college.
- Develop individual education plans for students including: identifying student's skills, strengths, interests; clarifying educational, career and life goals; and supporting students in the enrollment process.
- Monitor student progress toward goals and proactively advise and assist students to problem solve issues that may be barriers towards achieving academic goals, persistence, attendance, and completion.
- Review and stay current on curriculum requirements and policies impacting students, including meta-majors and guided pathways.
- Provide targeted outreach and hold meetings (including remote/online) with students flagged from the Early Alert program or are identified as at-risk for retention.
- Conduct regular outreach to facilitate registration.
- Establish an academic success plan for students which identifies needs and provides support. Plans include, but are not limited to: Goal setting, GPA recovery, study skills, test anxiety and stress management skills, time management, and connecting students to helpful resources.
- Partner with coaches, faculty advisors and other navigators and support staff to develop and deploy student support, communication strategies and opportunities to empower students to communicate their needs.
- Develop materials and conduct workshops, classroom presentations and coordinate events to increase student success, retention and persistence.
- Achieve established retention and enrollment goals for assigned populations while collaborating with the Cashier’s Office, Records and Financial Aid in order to mitigate student risk of being deregistered.
- Maintain advising logs and case management files to track contact hours, issues and outcomes with appropriate documentation and reporting.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

Qualifications:

Required
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Education, Human Service or related field
- Minimum of one year of full-time (or equivalent) experience working as an advisor, academic coach or similar role in student support services in higher education, secondary education, non-profit or community services setting
- Must have basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable with utilizing technological tools such as teleconference software, database software, Learning Management systems and online scheduling tools
Preferred
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Knowledge of Health Professions curriculum, requirements and selective admission practices
- Case Management experience
- Experience with Student Information Systems (preferred - Ellucian Colleague)

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient use of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
