Reading Area Community College has an opening for a Director of Medical Laboratory Technician and Histotechnician Programs

About the Health Professions Division:

The Health Professions Division offers accredited Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree programs in Medical Laboratory Technician and Histotechnician. The programs prepare students for careers in clinical laboratory settings through a combination of classroom, laboratory, and clinical training. The Division is committed to student success, workforce development, and strong healthcare partnerships.

Position Summary:

The Program Director provides academic, administrative, and instructional leadership for the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program and administrative oversight of the Histotechnician (HT) program. The Histotechnician program is supported by an Education Coordinator who manages instructional delivery, student supervision, and day-to-day academic operations in accordance with accreditation standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned master’s degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution in: 
    • Medical laboratory science or clinical laboratory science; or 
    • A chemical, physical, or biological science; or 
    • Education or a closely related discipline 
  • Current ASCP BOC or ASCPi BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT), or equivalent certification from a recognized credentialing agency 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time clinical laboratory experience 
  • Evidence of teaching, training, or instructional experience in clinical laboratory science or a closely related discipline 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation processes, or willingness to learn 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a program director or in an academic leadership role 
  • Experience with outcomes assessment, continuous quality improvement, and accreditation self-study preparation 

Responsibilities: (Not an all-inclusive list of duties)

· Provide academic, administrative, and instructional leadership for the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program 

· Provide administrative oversight of the Histotechnician (HT) program in collaboration with the Education Coordinator 

· Oversee curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation for the MLT program 

· Supervise faculty and support staff 

· Monitor student outcomes assessment and overall program effectiveness for both programs 

· Coordinate and maintain clinical affiliation agreements 

· Ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements for both programs 

· Lead program review, reporting, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
