We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Medical Assistant Instructor to join our healthcare education team at Reading Area Community College. This role is responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction to students pursuing a career in medical assisting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical assisting, teaching experience, and a commitment to student success.

Working Hours:                                    

Flexible schedule as required by the needs of the position. Specific work hours to be agreed upon by the supervisor and employee before the onset of employment.

Summary:

The Medical Assistant Instructor reports to the Director of Non-Credit Healthcare Programs who will assign program hours and location. The medical assistant instructor provides academic instruction and student academic support for the medical assistant program. The instructor is responsible for delivery of the approved curriculum.  Medical Assistant coursework includes one or more of the following content areas: clinical skills, pharmacology, medical billing and coding, medical records, human resources, medical administration, anatomy and physiology, and pathology. 

Travel Requirements: 

Position requires limited local travel; employee must have access to transportation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plans, develops, and provides the educational curriculum for the medical assistant training program in accordance with federal and state requirements and ensures the curriculum is current and accurate.
  2. Responsible for teaching the course curriculum and clinical skills as outlined in the approved program.
  3. Sets student expectations, and builds knowledge and clinical skills aimed at assisting students to obtain medical assistant certification.
  4. Ensures competency assessments and instructional materials are relevant to the curriculum.
  5. Responsible for evaluating and documenting students' progress and competency and maintaining accurate records.
  6. Provides remedial assistance to students as needed
  7. Provides leadership in formulating goals and objectives of the medical assistant training program
  8. Strives to remain current in professional practice
  9. Performs additional job-related duties as assigned
  10. Develop and deliver comprehensive lectures and hands-on training in medical assisting, including anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, patient care, and clinical procedures.
  11. Assess student learning through exams, assignments, and practical evaluations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  12. Facilitate hands-on lab activities and clinical experiences to prepare students for real-world healthcare settings.
  13. Advise and mentor students to support their academic and professional development.
  14. Collaborate with faculty and administration to enhance program curriculum, learning outcomes, and instructional materials.
  15. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
  16. Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, institutional policies, and healthcare regulations.
  17. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and program assessments.
  18. Utilize educational technology, learning management systems (LMS), and simulation tools to enhance student learning.
  19. Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and success.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. RN/LPN or Credentialed.as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  3. Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program.
  4. Minimum three years’ recent experience in a clinical setting

Preferred: 

  • Bilingual English\Spanish
  • Prior teaching experience

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn, follow, and enforce college policies and procedures
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting nursing and health career programs
  • Knowledge of curriculum and program development
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to the team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional manner
  • Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and maintain strict confidentiality. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with a diverse student population
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Assist with ordering supplies as necessary
  • Assess program effectiveness
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Computer Skills: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to use Internet software, spreadsheet software, Microsoft Office applications word processing software. The individual must be willing and able to learn other software programs required to perform the essential duties, including LMS instructor training.

Communication Skills:                                             

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability:                                                    

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Mathematical Skills: 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
