| Lock 44 - This lock was formerly used to convey the boats around what was Shepp's Dam. A good portion of this lock is filled in with silt from the river. There are a few privately owned shacks which appear to be on a portion of the land for which we gave no consideration. It is our opinion that it would be rather hard to find a buyer for this old lock which is partly under the railroad bridge.
Remarks - Presuming there is not more than one acre, it is our opinion that a purchaser, considering the liability of owning an unusable and decaying canal lock, would not pay more than $250.00 for the adjacent land and, therefore, we list this as the fair market value. |
