Lock 42 - Muhlenberg Township

Lock 42 - In order to inspect Lock 42, it was necessary to go through privately owned property. This lock lies opposite what was known as Felix Dam. The river was used for the canal boats and the lock was used only to convey the boats around the dam and back to the river. These locks are still in rather good condition and there is a heavy flow of water passing through. Continuing along the river for about 500 feet through heavy brush, there is an old vacant stone house. Although the stone walls are in rather good condition, the interior, including the floors, is very bad. We are presuming that the land between the locks and extending for a few hundred feet above the stone house is a part of the canal property.

Remarks - It seems to us that considering the only means of access is through the adjoining property, that they most likely would be potential buyers. The house lays back fairly well from the river and could be used for an all year round dwelling or a summer cottage. Considering the limited and restricted manner of accessibility, it is our opinion that all the property in this area, including lock 42, stone, would have a fair market value of $2,250.00.
