In June, Anna Weitz will retire from her post as president of Reading Area Community College, and this holiday season, she'll be honored for her contributions to the school and to Berks County as a whole.
The Reading Downtown Improvement District announced Wednesday that Weitz has been chosen to serve as grand marshal in the Reading Holiday Parade, Saturday, Nov. 18, in downtown Reading.
In a press release Wednesday, Weitz said she was surprised and humbled, and that she considers it a "huge honor" to be chosen for the parade post.
Weitz has served as president of RACC since June 2007. During her tenure, she's helped to increase programs related to skills in advanced manufacturing, technology, strategic planning and leadership.
"I make sure we really stay connected to the community so we're able to respond positively to the changing trends, and also make sure we're flexible about how we deliver an excellent education to our students," she said.
Charles R. "Chuck" Broad, executive director of the DID, said he's known Weitz for many years, and that she's "more than deserving" of the honor.
The parade will begin at 9 a.m. at 11th and Penn streets, and will continue down Penn Street to Second Street. The theme is "Home for the Holidays."
