Summary:
Plans, manages and executes all aspects of the College’s fundraising operations in support of institutional goals with specific focus on the strategic goals of the Foundation for Reading Area Community College. As the chief fundraiser, works with the College President and the Foundation’s Board of Directors on fund raising, donor stewardship and related duties to maintain and increase giving through an annual campaign, special events, development of alumni outreach, deferred gifts, planned giving as well as targeted capital campaign efforts. Provides oversight to the Miller Center for the Arts ensuring the Miller Center is integral to friend-raising while also raising funds to support its own operations and operating in a manner that enhances the College’s image and maximizes college-wide fundraising potential.
The Vice-President for College Advancement/Executive Director of the Foundation is a member of the President’s Council charged with contributing to all aspects of College-wide strategic goals and the implementation of that plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages all aspects of a comprehensive fund development program.
- Actively manages the foundation’s major gift prospect pool including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Develops short and long term strategic goals for the foundation. Creates and implements related strategies and sets performance goals.
- Plans and executes the foundation’s annual fund campaign.
- Serves as the Foundation’s Executive Director. Works effectively with and supports volunteer Foundation Board of Directors on implementation of activities. Assists Foundation with asset management. Prepares materials and reports for the Foundation Board and the President on fund development / institutional advancement activities. Manage committee process and board activities/responsibilities.
- Manages the foundation’s student scholarship program.
- Plans and executes a wide variety of special events, in some cases singularly and others in conjunction with a special event committee.
- Responsible for the creation of fundraising proposals of various types and for a wide variety of campaigns/purposes/audiences.
- Creates fundraising brochures, booklets and other promotional publications.
- Manages the foundation’s planned giving program including oversight of the Heritage Society.
- Serves as a key member of the college’s Center for Academic and Community Engagement with a primary focus on resource development.
- Serves as a member of the President’s Council.
- Supervises directors in the Foundation Office/Graphics and Miller Center for the Arts. Directs work of volunteers on special projects and initiatives.
- Prepares and manages the annual College budget for Institutional Advancement as well as identifies annual goals / objectives / accomplishments as part of the College’s strategic planning process.
- Assists the President with legislative and elected officials’ outreach.
- Performs other administrative duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Directly supervises directors of the Foundation Office and the Miller Center for the Arts. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Dynamic professional leader required with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a productive development program
- Familiarity with estate planning vehicles, including wills, trusts and annuities
- Familiarity with and ability to articulate the tax implications of charitable giving, including gifts of stock, property and other non-cash gifts
- Must be able to demonstrate high motivation, solid organizational skills, entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and an aggressive ability to develop new opportunities for donor cultivation and fund raising
- Previous experience managing a successful capital appeal
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of financial reporting / issues
- Must be committed to teamwork and working with staff and volunteers in a cooperative manner and be continuously open to new ideas and professional challenges
Preferred:
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution
- CFRE certification
- Higher education experience
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software. Knowledge of computer/PC fund raising software is essential.

- Familiarity with not-for-profit financial reporting and accounting and federal, state and local compliances required
Communication Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and publicity materials. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of faculty and staff, College alumni, community members, potential donors and boards of trustees.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
