Working Hours:
Working hours for this position consist of a 7.5 hour period (between the hours of 7:30 am and 8:00 pm) Monday through Friday exclusive of a 1/2 or 1 hour lunch.
*Note: In this position, the employee will be required to work one or two evenings per week. This position may require additional evening and/or weekend work with the employee having the option of working this time in addition to, or in lieu of regular hours.
Summary:
This position reports directly to the Dean of Student Affairs and will oversee the development of a comprehensive student life program that promotes student engagement and retention.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilize student satisfaction surveys and institutional data to assess program needs and the development of new programs and activities.
- Provide programming that will enhance and promote academic success and contribute to the quality of College life, such as cultural programs, alcohol and drug awareness, sexual violence awareness, wellness.
- Develop an annual plan of goals and objectives for the Student Life area and other student activities for inclusion in the College’s Strategic Plan.
- Conduct assessment of programs and services.
- Coordinate new student orientation programs.
- Conduct a student activities fair.
- Organize, coordinate, and promote campus special events including but not limited to Welcome Week, Veterans Day Celebration, Berks Got Talent, RACC Idols, RACCy Olympics, Making a Difference Ceremony, Tissue Issue, voter registration, community service.
- Serve as the advisor to the Student Government Association oversee all SGA activities including organizational development and leadership training.
- Develop and implement a student club advisor training program.
- Promotes and supports campus clubs and organizations.
- Provide an annual orientation for all student organizations and club advisors.
- Provide operational guidance, promotional support, and coordinate activities within the institutional plan.
- Develop and update the Student Handbook.
- Coordinate wellness activities.
- Develop the annual student life budget and submit for approval.
- Provide monthly and annual reports of Student Life activities and accomplishments.
- Travel with student clubs/organizations when needed.
- Promote student engagement, leadership development, and campus involvement.
- Communicate effectively within a diverse college setting.
- Promote the value of student activities and of the motivations of students who participate in them.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply student development and learning outcomes theories, and report on the results of such outcomes.
- Maintain a strong philosophical base for student activities and the value it adds to student retention.
- Perform other related and appropriate duties as assigned.

Required:
- Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of one (1) year full-time professional experience in the development and implementation of college level student activities and advising student groups; or similar full-time professional experience in a not for profit organization serving youth.
- Or a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in and (3) three years full-time experience in the development and implementation of college level student activities and advising student groups; or similar full-time professional experience in a not for profit organization serving youth.
- Demonstrated an understanding of and passion for the community college student.
- Ability to effectively train and motivate people.
- Demonstrated history of initiative and creativity in developing programs and problem solving.
- Demonstrate outstanding organizational skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse student population.
- Collaborate effectively with club advisors to maximize engagement and activities for students.
- Experience working with individuals with diverse needs.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Community College Experience
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish
- Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs or Counseling
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, vendors, faculty and staff, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the use of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and/or Word Processing software. Power point experience is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Position requires occasional local travel; employee must have access to ready transportation.
