Working Hours:
Working hours for this position consist of 25 hours per week spread out over 4 or 5 days. Possible evening hours one evening per week. These hours to be agreed upon between the supervisor and employee at the onset of employment.
This position is 100% Grant Funded.
Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position would be to serve as a member of the Advantage program and develop intervention strategies for student retention and success. These strategies will include academic, career and transfer advising, and providing financial literacy and guidance. This person will interact with students in individual and group sessions. This position will also facilitate orientation sessions to familiarize students with career, transfer, and advising resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work cooperatively as a member of the Advantage Program staff to develop intervention strategies for student retention and success.
- Manage student referrals and conduct intake interviews with students.
- Provide academic and career advising, as well as financial literacy to students in individual and/or group sessions. Develop financial literacy, transfer, and career training materials for students and staff.
- Present orientation sessions to career, transfer, and advising resources for students.
- Work collaboratively with the Financial Aid office to track student’s loan burdens and other financial aid status information, to provide information and assistance in applying for financial aid, and develop and provide financial literacy and personal financial budgeting information to students.
- Plan, develop and deliver comprehensive academic and career advising services to improve student retention and success. Develop and facilitate workshops including but not limited to career, transfer, financial literacy, and academic development. Establish a working knowledge of community resources to refer students who need additional support or services.
- Collaborate with RACC faculty and staff as well as community agency representatives targeted partner institutions to ensure the success and improvement of the Program.
- Monitor and track student, faculty and employer referrals.
- Assist students in applying for admission and financial aid at 4-year institutions.
- Maintain contact notes and all other required program paperwork.
- Assist Program Director with development of additional programs as needed.
- Develop and coordinate a career planning program for students who are undecided about their college major.
- Complete periodic reviews to assess student progress toward academic/career goals and evaluate student outcomes as a result of academic support initiatives.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of any summer bridge or transition activities for students.
- Conduct him/her in a professional manner and exhibit a positive image for RACC at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, developmental education, or related field is required plus 1 year (full-time equivalent) of work experience in career guidance, transfer advising, or academic advising is required; OR unrelated Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years’ (full-time equivalent) of work experience in career guidance, transfer advising, or academic advising is required.
- Two years of experience working with low income, first generation, and returning adults/non-traditional students is required.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, developmental education, or related field is preferred.
- Two years’ work experience in higher education is preferred.
- Bilingual: English / Spanish
Communication Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, staff, outside groups and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to use Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated sensitivity to individuals with diverse special needs.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
Demonstrated effective record keeping skills.
