The Coordinator of Assessment and Articulation
The Coordinator of Assessment and Articulation is the primary contact for all academic assessments. However, the college assessment center has been established to help students who bring with them to Reading Area Community College a wide variety of experiences and college-level learning. Those students who wish to transfer credit from a non-classroom manner will find it beneficial to contact the Coordinator of Assessment. The Coordinator will serve as an information source for the following areas:
- Credit by Examination
- Life Experience/Portfolio Assessment
- Transfer Credit
- CLEP Testing
- Advanced Placement
Institutional examinations for credit have been designed for students who have previous experience that applies to a specific course. Students may be eligible to take a test to earn college credit for specific courses. Credit by examination is considered resident credit and may not transfer to other institutions.
Credit by Articulation
Articulation agreements exist with many high schools and career/technology centers for the purpose of granting recognition for the achievement of college-level learning in secondary school programs.
One example involves students who were enrolled in the tech prep program in high school. Currently, RACC offers the following Tech Prep articulated programs:
- Accounting
- Business Management
- Information Technology
- Early Childhood Education
- HVAC/R
- Industrial Maintenance Technology
- Nursing (RN)
- Medical Lab Technician
- Practical Nursing (LPN)
Proctoring Exams
Individuals attending another institution enrolled in distance learning courses who need exams proctored may do so by contacting the coordinator of assessment. There is a $25 fee for this service.
Portfolio Instruction/Design/Assessment for Life Experience
Via the use of a personally prepared portfolio of documents, any individual may request an assessment of learning gained through employment experiences, seminars, workshops, self-study, and life.
Interested individuals must attend a portfolio preparation seminar prior to compiling information for review.
For information regarding any of these services, contact the coordinator of assessment.
