Transfer Credit Review
Students transferring from another college or university are responsible for presenting official transcripts and appropriate catalogs to assist in the proper evaluation of any transfer credits. RACC may accept up to 45 credits of coursework completed at another accredited institution.
The College may accept work completed with a grade of "D" if the cumulative grade point average is a "C" average (2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale). However, some programs of study preclude acceptance of any course with a grade below a "C." Students should check with the appropriate academic division office concerning this policy.
Acceptability of transfer credit also depends on several other factors including appropriateness of the course to a given program and comparability of the course to courses offered by RACC.
Life Experience
Credit earned through the Assessment Center offers multiple benefits, including reducing the cost of college, enabling faster degree completion, and recognizing of career accomplishments.
Those students who wish to transfer credit from a non-classroom setting will find it beneficial to contact the Assessment Center for information on the following areas:
- Credit by Examination
- Life Experience/Portfolio Assessment
- Transfer Credit
- Military Service
- Advanced Placement
Credit by Exam
Institutional examinations for credit have been designed for students who have previous experience that applies to a specific course. Students may be eligible to take a test to earn college credit for specific courses. Credit by examination is considered resident credit and may not transfer to other institutions.

Credit by Articulation
Articulation agreements exist with many high schools and career/technology centers for the purpose of granting recognition for the achievement of college-level learning in secondary school programs.
One example involves students who were enrolled in the tech prep program in high school. Currently, RACC offers the following Tech Prep articulated programs:
- Accounting
- Business Management
- Information Technology
- Early Childhood Education
- Industrial Maintenance Technology
- Nursing (RN)
- Medical Lab Technician
- Practical Nursing (LPN)
Portfolio Instruction/Design/Assessment for Life Experience
Via the use of a personally prepared portfolio of documents, any individual may request an assessment of learning gained through employment experiences, seminars, workshops, self-study and life.
Interested individuals must attend a portfolio preparation seminar prior to compiling information for review.
You may be a candidate for the portfolio process if you:
- Your learning is closely related to specific course competencies listed in the college catalog.
- Your learning is in subject areas needed to complete your degree.
- Your knowledge in the specific area that you are requesting credit for is up-to-date.
- You understand the principles and theories associated with the skills and knowledge that you possess.
Learn more about what a portfolio should include and how the process works in this Guide to Portfolio Development.
