The Raven Ambassadors

What are Raven Ambassadors?

Raven Ambassadors are members of the student body who represent the College by assisting with the recruitment of new students. Ambassadors can be seen on campus giving tours and participating in other events such as Open House and Orientation.

How do you become a Raven Ambassador?

Raven Ambassadors are chosen through an application and interview process held each May. Students are required to submit an application, which includes an essay on why they think they can best represent RACC. The applicants are then selected for an interview based on their campus involvement, essay and grade point average (2.5 or greater). The Program is organized and supervised by Pat Parks, the Interim Director of the Center for Academic Success.

Why was the Raven Ambassador Program established?

The Raven Ambassador Program was created through the Office of Admissions as a way to help recruit new students. The key to the program is to have Ambassadors help prospective students make a decision about RACC by sharing their own college experiences.

Photo Name, Title, and Biography

Flavia De Paula
My name is Flavia De Paula and I am one of the Raven student ambassadors at Reading Area Community College. I have been at RACC for 3 years as a part time student, studying as a Liberal Arts Transfer major. I plan to transfer to a 4 year school to pursue a degree in Anthropology. I am also a member of the International Student Club. Coming from Brazil and living here for 5 years, I find Reading and RACC the perfect place to live and study because of the affordable tuition and the supportive environment. All students are welcomed and encouraged to work well on their own level and grow from there. Besides the opportunity to study at a college with cultural diversity on the campus, I take a great deal of satisfaction in being part of the Raven Ambassador program which gives me the opportunity to learn about the college and get involved with student activities.

Ruth Muchimba
My name is Ruth Muchimba and I’m majoring in nursing. I have been an ambassador since June, 2005. I enjoy being around people, helping and working with them and as an ambassador, I do that all the time. Besides being an ambassador, I’m a fulltime student and because I love activities and socializing, I’m very involved. I have been a member of the International Student Club for 3 years, one of which I served as president. I have been a member of the Student Activities Board (SAB) for 2 years and I served as vice president for a year and I have also been a member of Phi Theta Kappa for 3 years and served as SAB representative for one year. I hope to graduate in June 2008 with my Associate Degree in Nursing but until then, I will remain a Raven Ambassador.

I’m also the Treasurer of the International Students' Club where I have the opportunity to experience leadership at different levels. I love to travel, learn different languages and meet new people. In addition to being actively involved in school, I’m also the mother of a 1 year old boy.
