READING, PA – Apr. 3, 2012 - Reading Area Community College is pleased to announce that Christina Buehler (pictured right) and Patricia Sturz (pictured left) have been named to the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team, which is part of the All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by USA Today.
Buehler and Sturz were two of the 47 students honored for their academic achievements in the classroom and for their volunteerism in their communities.
As a reward for their achievements, both Buehler and Sturz will receive a scholarship from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) that can be applied at any of the 14 universities within the PASSHE system. The program requires that students apply to the university within one year, and the scholarship is renewable for two years toward a baccalaureate degree at that university.
Buehler, who was named a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar, has spent the last two years as the editor-in-chief of the College’s Front Street Journal newspaper. She has been instrumental in reorganizing the publication, as well as attracting new advertisers. Buehler has also had an essay and photo published in Legacy Volume 10, the college’s literary magazine.
Buehler will graduate in May as an Education Transfer student and is planning to transfer to Kutztown University to pursue a Master’s Degree to work in education as an English Teacher or a Principal.
Sturz is the current president of the College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter and serves as a supplemental instruction leader to help other students. Additionally, she is active in the community, volunteering with the Girl Scouts and with the Exeter Township School District Association of Parents and Teachers.
Sturz is graduating with an Associate Degree in Sociology/Anthropology with plans to become a School Psychologist and Licensed Professional Counselor.
