Practical Nurse
College Credit Certificate
The Practical Nursing certificate program is full-time and twelve months in length. It prepares the student to provide direct client care in all settings where nursing takes place under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, licensed physician or licensed dentist. The graduate will participate in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care in cooperation with other members of the health care team. Upon graduation students are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN licensing examination. The Practical Nursing Program is approved by the State Board of Nursing of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.

Upon successful completion of the Practical Nurse Program, the graduate will be able to:
- Provide safe nursing care along with physical comfort and psychological and spiritual support by utilizing the nursing process.
- Practice effective communication techniques in a setting with clients, clients’ families and members of the health care team.
- Seek self-improvement and growth by active participation in education and vocational development.
- Function within the legal and ethical parameters of the law governing practical nursing.
Please note: These programs with the exception of the Practical Nurse Program can be pursued on a part-time basis.
Appropriate placement test scores, or the completion of certain developmental courses, are required for all programs of study. Additional prerequisites may be necessary for some courses and can be found in the course descriptions section of the catalog.
It is recommended that students confer with their advisor when selecting electives.
