Medical Lab PhotoReading Area Community College’s Medical Laboratory Technician Program is as old as the College, having been one of the first programs at the school. After having taken three semesters of core curriculum courses and special medical laboratory courses, our students spend the final semester at local hospital clinical laboratories where professional clinical laboratory scientists mentor them. Students earn an Associate Degree in Applied Science (AAS).

Each year our graduates sit for the national certifying board examinations (American Society for Clinical Pathologists and the National Credentialing Agency) and then go on to careers in clinical laboratory science. Although most graduates choose to practice in a hospital setting, some opt for positions in animal hospital labs, food labs, clinical reference labs, pharmaceutical companies, forensic, and toxicology labs, etc. All enjoy a career that is ever-changing and challenging with many opportunities for professional and personal growth.

The Medical laboratory Technician Program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
